Justin Soza, shown here in photos, is a third year junior student at Assabet Valley's metal fabrication program located in Marlborough, Mass.
Justin's talents in metal working are showcased here with his fire place screen that he has made last week. He has forged, Tig welded ( GTAW ) and fastened his fire place screen project. Measurements are 48 inches x 32 inches, all of the iron leaves you see in the photos have been hand plasma cut and hand forged to become an organic theme. Oxy/ Act. torch -work was used to bend and shape the vines and leaves, then Tig welded on. |

As an outstanding student in our program, Justin has progressed through the ranks of metal fabrication while learning and performing all aspects of sheet metal layout, metallurgy, welding, forging, an heavy equipment welding repairs. At the end of Justin's fire place screen project, Justin has applied a hot Bees Wax finish to coat his forged iron work. forged handles and small feet will be attached onto his screen this week in shop.
Justin's determination to succeed and strong work ethics is coupled with his technical ability to take on any project from blue print- sketch to layout, to fabrication, to welding, to a finish product is an excellent example in how Justin will succeed in life and become skilled as a metal fabricator/ welder in his working career. |

Students here at Assabet's metal fabrication program are required to learn and develop their technical skills in order to become skilled in their trade and employable craftsmen and craftswomen upon graduation. However, along the way, we teach and encourage our students to explore the creative side of metal working. This creative side approach has proven to be a success in getting our students interested in many types of metals and how to move, shape, form and weld them. Enjoy the photos,
Regards,
Mr. Mansfield |
